There’s something extra comforting about a rich, chocolatey cookie...especially in the postpartum season when your body is asking for more nourishment, more calories, and more grace.
These Lactation Crinkle Cookies are soft on the inside, perfectly crackled on the outside, and deeply chocolatey. Best of all? They’re made with Oat Mama’s Brewer’s Yeast and flaxseed, two ingredients beloved in the lactation world for their nourishing, mama-supportive benefits.
And yes, we promise: you hardly notice they’re in there.

Why We Love Adding Brewer’s Yeast to Cookies
Brewer’s yeast might not sound like a cookie ingredient, but hear us out.
When paired with bold flavors like cocoa powder and vanilla, brewer’s yeast blends seamlessly into baked goods. In fact, many mamas are surprised by how undetectable it is (no bitterness, no funky aftertaste!). Just rich, chocolatey goodness.
Why mamas love it:
-
Brewer’s yeast is naturally rich in B vitamins, iron, and fiber
-
It’s commonly included in lactation recipes to help support milk supply
-
It adds nourishment without changing the texture or flavor of cookies
In other words: big benefits, cozy cookie vibes. That’s our favorite kind of nourishment.

Lactation Chocolate Crinkle Cookies
Ingredients
-
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-
1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
-
½ cup butter or melted coconut oil
-
4 large eggs, room temperature
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
½ cup Oat Mama Brewer’s Yeast
-
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
-
2 teaspoons baking powder
-
¾ teaspoon salt
-
1 cup powdered sugar (for rolling cookies in)
Instructions
-
Mix the chocolate base
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and butter (or coconut oil). Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat until the mixture looks glossy and well blended. -
Add eggs + vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. -
Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brewer’s yeast, flaxseed, baking powder, and salt. -
Bring it all together
Add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture and mix on low speed just until combined. The dough will be thick and fudgy. -
Chill the dough
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight. This step is key for those beautiful crinkle tops. -
Prep for baking
When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and place the powdered sugar in a small bowl. -
Roll + coat
Scoop the chilled dough into 1-inch balls, roll generously in powdered sugar, and place them about 2 inches apart on the baking sheets. (Tip: only roll what you’re baking right away—keep the rest chilled!) -
Bake
Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers look puffed and slightly soft. -
Cool + enjoy
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. They’ll firm up slightly while staying soft inside.
