Lactation Recipes: DIY Herbal Iced Tea

For lactation support, there are some teas you can buy, but if you want to make your own, here’s a great DIY version.  I made sure the ingredients were easy to find (found all three at Whole Foods), because I know hunting down blessed thistle, raspberry leaf and nettle leaf can be a little tricky for a busy mom. The two main ingredients in this tea known to help promote milk flow are fenugreek and fennel seed. I infused hot water with the two ingredients beforehand and then steeped a satchel of Hibiscus tea for a few minutes, just to add a little tropical twist on this lactation tea. Great hot, but iced is where it’s at.
DIY Herbal Lactation Iced Tea
1 serving size
1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 hibiscus tea bag
6-8 ounces water
In a tea diffuser, fill with 1/2 teaspoon each  of fenugreek and fennel seeds and place in a small sauce pan that has been  filled with 8 ounces of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer and let seeds steep for about 20-25 minutes, covered. Bring water back to a boil. Remove from heat and pour infused water in a mug with tea bag inside. Allow tea to steep for 3-4 minutes. Enjoy hot, or pour over ice for a refreshing drink.
