Pears are more than just delicious fruit. They are packed with nutrients like fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants, all of which support overall health. The fiber in pears helps keep digestion regular and softens stools, which is especially nice for postpartum bodies that can be sensitive or sluggish after birth. Fiber also helps balance blood sugar and supports heart health by helping keep cholesterol levels in check.
When pears are cooked gently, like in a poached preparation, they become even easier to digest. This soft texture is kind to sensitive systems, and the warming spices we use in this recipe (like cinnamon and ginger) can help soothe the stomach and aid digestion. For postpartum recovery, this combination of gentle fruit and comforting spices makes the perfect nourishing treat.
Poached pears are actually utilized for their healing properties in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Pears are seen as a healing food that nourishes and moistens the lungs and clears “heat” or inflammation in the body. They are often prepared steamed or poached with honey and warming spices because this method is believed to make their soothing qualities even stronger. Pears are traditionally used to help reduce phlegm, relieve dry coughs, and support the respiratory system, and they’re also thought to support healthy digestion. Exactly what so many of us need this time of year!
Why Our Chai Spice Poached Pears and Chai Tea Are a Postpartum Win
Not only are pears healthful on their own, but pairing them with our signature tea makes this dessert a nurturing choice for the postpartum period.
What Makes Our Chai Spice Lactation Tea Special
Our Chai Spice Lactation Tea is crafted with organic, milk-supporting herbs and cozy chai spices to make every cup comforting and helpful for breastfeeding moms. The blend includes herbs that have long been used to encourage a steady milk supply and support postpartum wellness.
Here’s how some of the key ingredients contribute:
-
Organic fenugreek leaf is a traditional galactagogue, meaning it’s believed to help support milk production.
-
Organic fennel is another herb often used to promote milk flow while also soothing digestion.
-
Organic raspberry leaf supports postpartum recovery and uterine health.
-
Organic nettle leaf brings valuable nutrients like iron and calcium, which can help replenish energy after birth.
-
Organic ginger and chai spices add warmth, support circulation and digestion, and create that cozy, comforting flavor moms love.
Together these herbs make a nourishing tea that can be part of your daily ritual to promote well-being while breastfeeding.
Chai Spice Poached Pears (don't forget the ice cream!)
Ingredients
-
3 bags of Chai Spice Lactation tea
-
2 cups boiling water
-
1/4 cup honey
-
2 pears, peeled
-
Vanilla ice cream for serving
-
Cinnamon for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
-
Place the tea bags in a pan that holds at least 3 quarts and pour the boiling water over them. Let the tea bags sit for about 5 to 8 minutes to steep.
-
Remove the tea bags (gently squeeze them so you get all the flavorful liquid out!). Stir in the honey until it dissolves.
-
Add the peeled pears to the pan and pour in just enough water to come up around the pears. Bring the mixture up to a simmer and cook for about 20 minutes or until the pears are tender. Remove the pears with a slotted spoon and set them aside. At this point your home should smell amazing!
-
Turn the heat up so the poaching liquid reaches a rolling boil. Let it boil until it reduces and becomes syrupy, about 20 to 30 minutes.
-
Place each warm pear in a shallow dish. Spoon some of the warm syrup over the pear and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Serve right away. Yum!
