We still have a few weeks left of summer, so let's pack in a few more iced drinks while we can! Here's a fun and festive beverage inspired by horchata, a Mexican rice cooler. In our version, we use barley for its super lactogenic powers. When barley cooks, a lot of its nutrients are leeched out in the water. What is left is a pleasantly savory and nutty drink which delivers a ton of B vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber to keep you feeling full throughout the day. Just like oats, barley has been traditionally served to new breastfeeding mamas for its healing and milk-producing effects. Lactation Recipes: DIY Herbal Iced Tea

For lactation support, there are some teas you can buy, but if you want to make your own, here’s a great DIY version.  I made sure the ingredients were easy to find (found all three at Whole Foods), because I know hunting down blessed thistle, raspberry leaf and nettle leaf can be a little tricky for a busy mom. The two main ingredients in this tea known to help promote milk flow are fenugreek and fennel seed. I infused hot water with the two ingredients beforehand and then steeped a satchel of Hibiscus tea for a few minutes, just to add a little tropical twist on this lactation tea.
